The 5 Rodrigues Island Beaches you would like to visit (Including One of Our Local Favorite)
Rodrigues Island’s beaches are an absolute must-see for any visitor. We already feature several of these beaches in our general Beaches and Islets section, but here, we are diving a bit deeper to give you our list of the 5 Rodrigues Island Beaches you will like to see – and the 5th one is our little local like.
If you want to kitesurf, the Mourouk area is your number one destination. This beach is renowned for its vast, shallow, and protected lagoon and allows you to downwind to islets like Ile Aux Chats and Ile Catherine, making it your first choice for kitesurfing. You can also enjoy beach activities such as beach volley, beach soccer, long walks, paddle board and kayak.
- Traveler Type: Kite Surfers, Windsurfers, Interested in beach activities.
- Pro Tips: Check our Attractions and Activities Section for Local Kitesurf Schools. You can find all names, details, and contact numbers in their profiles. Always confirm necessary information with the local school before making your booking decision.
- Getting There: Easily accessible by scooter, car, or pickup.
Good to know: Mourouk beach has a large designated parking area and you can find food and accommodations around easily.
Trou d’ARgent: For the Adventurers and Hikers
Often cited as one of the most beautiful spot in Rodrigues, Trou d’Argent is a postcard-perfect destination. It is accessible only by a coastal hike (approximately 35 to 45 minutes), with the easiest route starting from Saint-François. The beach is a bright white sand between two imposing cliffs, making it feel like a truly personal discovery. At low tides, the swimming spot is clear and like a natural pool with marine life to explore. At high tides, it is often more rough as the reef is close.
- Traveler Type: Adventurers, Hikers, Nature Lovers, Photography Lovers, Snorkeling
- Pro Tips: Wear comfortable shoes and pack sufficient water and food. Once you arrive to the starting point, there is one nearby shop, and often no phone connection. The routes are indicated. However, you can take a local guide. If you are like us and like the hammock life, you can bring your hammock to Trou d’Argent.
Note: No phone connections, one nearby shop, no public toilets.
- Getting There: Drive to Saint-François beach, followed by around 45 minutes of walk, access by foot only.
Located close to the trailhead for Trou d’Argent, Saint-François beach is our recommendation for families and those prioritizing safety and comfort. The lagoon here is notably protected and shallow, offering safe swimming conditions for children under parents’ surveillance. It’s the ideal spot for simple, stress-free relaxation.
- Traveler Focus: Families, General Swimmers.
Note: You can have places to eat nearby as well as accommodations and a public toilet.
For the Scenic View: Pointe Coton
Pointe Coton is famous for the stunning bright long beach, beautiful and safe swimming areas. There are several eating spots nearby and accommodations.
- Traveler Focus: Relaxation, Long walks, Family Time, Scenic Photography.
- Pro Tips: The Pointe Coton beach is well protected from the wind and makes the sea calm and relaxing for a swim.
- Getting There: Easy access by road.
Note: You can have places to eat nearby as well as accommodations and a public toilet.
Anse Bouteille: Our Local Favorite
Every local has his/her one favorite beach, and this one is ours: Anse Bouteille. It’s a tiny beach, secluded and unmarked
- Traveler Focus: Explorers, Snorkeling, Nature Lovers
- Insider Tip: Plan your visit for low tides if you want to snorkel. The reef is nearby, same as Trou D’Argent so at low tides the swimming spot is clear and ideal for snorkeling. At high tides you can see some locals cliff jump but safety first.
- Getting Around: Requires local knowledge or a guide, as it is largely unmarked.
Safety & Tides
Check the tides before going to the beaches on Rodrigues Island, especially if you are going to swim. For example, we like to swim in low tides at Anse Bouteille to snorkel and high tides at Pointe Coton to have a relaxing moment. It depends on your preferences. You can check the tides on the Mauritius Meteorological service area page for Rodrigues Island
Also always adhere to the cardinal rule: kindly leave no trace behind.
Thank you for reading up to here !
Have a nice day at the beach.

Hopefully I’ll be there again In October
